Photography for a Cause!

Happy April everyone! This is by far my favorite month of the year because of a little event called Photography for a Cause! For the month of April, La Brisa will be donating 100% of print profits to one local and one national non profit. You can view all of the images for sale by going here - La Brisa's Photography for a Cause! The most exciting part of the event this year is that phenomenal photographers from across the US will also be participating and donating to their charities of choice! I am so humbled and grateful to have the following amazing photographers join Brandi and me this year: Anobel Odisho, Cathy Mores, ericamay, Luke Townsend and Scott Bean. Hopefully, we can collectively raise $3,000 to donate to our organizations! =)

This year, I wanted to select two organizations that are a bit more personal to me and I am super excited to support the work that they do and their mission to helping others. The founders of Corby's Castle are our bible study leaders in Houston and Charlie, the co-founder of unitechange, is one of my clients and I just photographed his engagement session in San Francisco. Below are more details of each of their incredible perspectives on making a difference!

Founded in May of 2007 by Lisa Livingston Eicher, in memory of her brother Corby Livingston, Corby's Castle is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit community service group for high school students. At his funeral, a poem was read that Corby had written not long before he passed away. In it he wrote, "I will begin to steadily lay the foundation to my castle". Knowing that he would not have the chance to build his castle, Lisa felt called to step up and do it for him.

At the first Corby's Castle meeting in May of 2007, eight high school students were in attendance. Over the last 3 years, Corby's Castle has grown immensely and at the first meeting of the 2010-2011 school year, over 80 high school students were in attendance!

Unitechange.org is a new kind of philanthropy. Philanthropy: the effort or inclination to increase the well-being of humankind, as by charitable aid or donations. A simple definition, yet many seem to think that philanthropy is limited to the very wealthy - perhaps because, too often, only the very wealthy get to see their donations in action and experience the change they cause. We disagree. We believe that everyone can increase the well-being of humankind, and we believe that everyone should be able to experience the positive effects of their actions.

Our mission is to create a more tangible approach to charity.
We want our donors to feel connected to every aspect of a charitable project. We will broadcast the story of each of our charitable projects on an ongoing basis, through email updates, blogs, and photos/video from the project site. Donors will see their projects grow from start to finish, and will be able stay in touch with the community after the project is complete.

Our vision is an online community of philanthropists that changes the world.
Together, we can create a new standard for charitable giving—where donors feel a personal connection to the projects and causes they support, where charities can focus on fulfilling their mission instead of raising funds, and where local communities are engaged in developing projects that meet their needs. Join us on our journey.
