Photography for a Cause 2010 - Preview

Photography for a Cause is my personal baby. To me, one of the best things about being a photographer is the opportunity to give back. During its first year, I had extremely low expectations for Photography for a Cause. I was hoping to raise $50 to donate to two local charities: Boys & Girls Club and the Red Cross of Manhattan. Well, you, surprised me completely and raised $1,009! You can read all about last year's results here: Photography for a Cause 2009!

Photography for a Cause 2010 starts tomorrow and I just wanted to give you a little sneak peak of some of the photographs for sale as well as which local organizations we will be donating to this year!

Week 14: Sun

You may have noticed, but I love doing sun bursts with my photography! I think they are so much fun and they look so cool because none of it is photo-shopped! Yes, this shot was taken during St. Patty's Day, but I have not had a chance to blog about my 52 Weeks lately! So here it is. It was a crazy day in NYC with people everywhere, but I really liked how the sun positioned itself near the cathedral and backlit the American flags simultaneously.

I was walking in the opposite direction, turned around, saw this and it becomes part of my 52 Weeks of Awesomeness project. Awesome how that works, isn't it? As they say, sometimes the best pictures are behind you. Has that ever happened to you?

Carew Family | Joy Session | Manhattan, KS | Brandi

Life as an army spouse can be difficult, no, not difficult, just down right exhausting. The emotional strain of uncertainty and the nights alone day after day, and month after month can really take a toll on anyone. Little did I know, that one of my latest clients isn't just "anyone."  Not only has her husband been away for the last several months, she has been pregnant for most of his deployment. Liliana Carew is one of the strongest and most beautiful women I have ever met. Did I mention that we met at the dentist? Last Fall I had a wisdom tooth pulled and Liliana was one of the dental assistants. We spoke briefly about doing a maternity session and viola...great photos of an amazing experience ensued!  I was able to photograph Liliana in her home and although Bill couldn't be there I tried to ensure that the photos were intimate and entirely captured the radiance of her pregnancy. A few weeks later Bill returned for R&R and just in time for Little Bill to arrive! I was able to get a few quick shots a week after baby William was born and I am so grateful that dad got to share in those moments.

Liliana Carew, I salute you. Thank you so much for opening your home and your lives to me and I look forward to watching "little" Bill grow!

Fundraiser for HOBY - www.ericamay.com

Happy Sunday everyone! Many of you are well aware of my awesome friendship with Erica from www.ericamay.com and I wanted to share a fundraising event that she is currently doing! For those of you in/near/around the Kansas City area, Erica is offering a discounted rate for her portrait sessions and 100% of the proceeds go to young leaders who may not have the financial ability to attend the HOBY leadership conference on their own. Erica, does a FAR superior job of explaining everything, so check out her blog and support her cause!

And here are a few pics that www.ericamay.com took of Brisa and me during her recent visit to Brooklyn just in case you doubted her awesomeness! :)

Springer Family | Joy Session | Rockville, MD | Chris

Recently, I traveled down to the NOVA/MD/DC area for the Springer family's awesome family session! It was a tad wet outside so we stayed indoors and had a little tea time, checked out the dad's airplane that he is building in his basement (so cool!) and of course, focused on the newest edition to the family! Such a sweet and loving family and I instantly felt right at home with them!

Thank you so much for the opportunity and I can't wait to see you again! They are all going to grow up so fast! =)

Grandma!

Tea time!

Yes, this photo is completely blurry and out of focus, but I love it :)

This just makes me giggle

Building an airplane in your basement makes you instantly awesome in my book. A man after my own heart!

You know me...I GOTTA include the family dog! :)

This little man rivals my nephews for cutest little boy ever!

One of my new favorite baby butt pictures =)

Always gotta take a few pictures of the happy parents! :)
